Still Life

I drew a still life portrait with pastels.  My teacher put some objects in the middle of the table and I had to draw them from where I saw them.  Because I could only see the top of the vase from where I was sitting that's the only part of the vase I drew.  I liked drawing with the pastels but they would get all over the table.

I made a bowl out of clay.  The bowl couldn't be just a regular bowl.  It had to be organic.  First I took a some clay and flattened it.  Then I cut it into a shape and cut the shape out of the clay.  Then when the clay dried I painted it and put a design on it.  Then when the paint was dried I put glaze on it.  Then it will get put in the kiln.  I really liked this project.  My favorite part was getting to use clay.

We did a project with localized perspective.  We worked in groups and each group chose a picture and added words from a magazine, cut them out and glued them to the picture.  Then they projected it onto the board and traced the picture.  One person traced part of the picture on a piece of paper.  Another person traced another part of the picture on a cardboard box and another person traced the rest of the picture on another cardboard box.  After we traced it we painted it.  I painted the letters and two others painted the monkey.  The last person painted the background.  Then after it dried we took some wooden sticks and taped them to the piece of paper.  Then we taped the wooden stick to two cans of paint.  Then we taped black paper around the paint cans.  This was so it would stand up.  Then we took it to the library and set it up.  We put the boxes on one bookshelf and the the rest on another.  The object is that from almost every direction you won't be able to tell what it is.  Then when you stand in the right spot you can see what it is supposed to be.  My group made a monkey saying peace not war.

Stencils

For this project we had to find a picture on the computer and put it in photoshop and change the picture to black and white and print it.  Then I projected the picture onto the wall and traced it onto a bigger piece of paper.  We had to either cut out the white or black in the picture with a knife. I had to cut out the white on the picture.  It was hard to cut out because it took a long time.  I had to cut the picture out slowly so I wouldn't accidently cut myself or cut out something I wasn't supposed to.  Then I had to get a piece of wood.  The wood had to be cut into four pieces. We had to use a saw to cut the wood.  It needed to be cut into  two twenty-two inch pieces and two twenty-six inch pieces.  Then I used a hammer and nails to make it into a frame.  Then I took a piece of cardboard and used a staple gun to attach it to the frame.  Then I painted the cardboard and the frame and after it dried I got to spray paint my picture onto the cardboard.  To spray paint it on I put the paper with the picture over the cardboard and sprayed where the picture had been cut out so the picture would then be on the cardboard.   Spray painting the picture was my favorite part of this project.  The picture is of Dobby, the house-elf from Harry Potter.

We made brick pixel drawings.  We worked in groups and each group drew an animal on the wall in the courtyard.  We used chalk to draw the pictures.  We got an image from the computer and pixelated it.  We then drew the picture onto the wall using pixels. One brick would have three pixels.  It was hard to divide the bricks into three pixels because some bricks were smaller than others.  One person would tell the others what color to draw the next pixel.  Two others would color the bricks and the other person would use a paintbrush to brush over the chalk to smooth it out.  When we got towards the top of the picture we had to move the table over and stand on it to be able to reach and only one person could reach so they had to color and brush.  This project was a lot of fun.  I liked coloring with the chalk the most. But the chalk would get all over our hands when we were coloring and and it would go everywhere when we would brush the chalk which we didn't like.  My least favorite part was when we had to pixelate it on the computer because that was really confusing.

Oil Pastel Portraits

This week we made a portrait of someone we knew.  We drew the picure with a grid.  Then we colored the pictures using pastels.  We had to use abnormal colors to show shading and highlights.  The hardest part to draw was the face. 

Value Shading

We each got a picture of someone else in the class and had to draw their picture with and shade it using the value scale.  I didn't really like this project because all we really did was draw the picture and shade it.
